About Us

Founded in 1871, we are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). That means we are centered in the gospel of Jesus Christ, we are loved and forgiven by God, and we are energized by the Holy Spirit to love and serve others . We welcome questions, we embrace paradox and the complex nature of faith, and we celebrate our unity in Christ through weekly worship and communion.

Our idyllic setting in Cedar Valley is a gift from God that provides a peaceful place for respite from busy lives, a grounding in the heritage of the valley and the faith of the generations who settled there.  Its natural beauty calls us to honor God by being a community of faithful stewards, caring for the people and the world around us.

Our Mission

Our mission is to worship God through lives of prayer, praise, thanksgiving, witness, and service. We strive to carry out Christ's Great Commission by reaching out to all people and to serve in response to God's love to meet human needs: care for the sick and aged, nurture children and youth, to advocate justice for all people and to work for peace. We work to nurture our own members so we can all grow in faith. We strive to instill a sense of appreciation for our congregation's history and for our geographical setting in a unique place in God's creation.

Stewardship

Annual Stewardship Events include: Outdoor Services, Annual Supper (usually the second Tuesday in June and served by the women of the congregation), Pie Auction (Fall), Oyster Stew & Chili Meal (usually the first Sunday in December and served by the men of the congregation), Bake and Craft Sale (also the first Sunday in December).

There's a saying: "give a fish and they eat for a day, teach them to fish and they eat for a lifetime."

But there's more to it per Pastor Jeff, "give them a place to fish and you've made a friend forever."

In August 2014 we finalized a trout stream easement with the MN DNR to give public access to our section of Cedar Valley Creek during stream trout open season. Fishing enthusiasts may park by the church and walk over to the trout stream and catch some fish. We're looking forward to getting acquainted with our new fishing friends. By the way, if you happen to be fishing on Sunday morning between 9:30 and 10:30, you're welcome to stop in for worship, waders and all.

Cedar Valley Lutheran Church welcomes all new ideas for stewardship . Please feel free to share your ideas with the pastor or church council.
